The first design released in the Norse Gods series, produced by Anonymous Mint, Odin, the All-Father, is fabricated from a 1 oz, .999 fine silver coin. The artwork by Howard David Johnson masterfully captures the fantastic nature of Norse mythology.
The outer band depicts Odin in brilliant silver sitting on his throne, wielding his trusted spear, Gungnir. Protecting the throne are Odin’s fearsome companions, wolves Geri and Freki. The background features a picturesque view of Asgard, home to the gods. Odin’s ravens, Muninn and Huginn, are intensely black and intertwine the device with the field, brilliantly.
The inner band features a Valkyrie- a vital part of Norse mythology. The Valkyries chose which fallen warriors to transport to Valhalla, an afterlife destination. The striking female figure is seen upon a mighty steed, sword and shield hoisted. “VALKYRIE- Chooser of the Slain” is inscribed along the top border of the round, while “1 Ounce .999 Fine Silver” is seen in the field.
